ABOUT US

When the city breaks, we rise stronger ready for blackouts, riots, disasters, and anything the streets throw at us.

More than preparedness  it’s protection. Built from real-life struggles and designed for real emergencies, this movement empowers communities with survival skills, street smarts, and resilience to stay safe and strong.

OUR STORY

Survival in the Hood is more than just prepping  it’s a mindset. Born from real-life experience and powered by community, this movement exists to help everyday people face disasters with confidence and resilience.

When the system fails, we don’t. We teach what to do before chaos hits  because survival starts now.

What began as a wake-up call after a small earthquake grew into a mission to protect those most often overlooked during crises. In the city, help doesn’t always come  and when it does, it’s often too late. That’s why we focus on real gear, real training, and real conversations, not fear tactics or fantasy survival plans.

Our story is rooted in community empowerment and street-level leadership. From coaching on the field to leading in the streets of Compton, we’ve always believed in showing up for our people. Survival in the Hood continues that legacy by building up, teaching forward, and preparing every block, one household at a time.

Our Vision

To prepare everyday people to survive when the city falls apart  physically, mentally, and emotionally. We see a future where urban communities are equipped, informed, and resilient. When systems fail, our people won't.

Our Mission

To deliver real skills, real gear, and real answers that save lives. We train, equip, and empower people to take control in moments of crisis when help is delayed or doesn't come at all. This is survival made real, for real people.

SURVIVAL IN THE HOOD

What We Do &

Why It Started

Survival in the Hood is both a mindset and a resource  offering real, actionable steps people can take to prepare for natural disasters, civil unrest, energy shortages, and power outages. It’s rooted in the belief that preparedness is no longer optional, especially as the U.S. government moves away from relying on agencies like FEMA. The truth is, when emergencies strike, we may have to go it alone  and that reality sparked this mission.

The idea was born in May 2021 after a small earthquake in Southern California. I pulled off the freeway and realized I had nothing with me  no water, no first aid kit, nothing to keep me safe if I had to stay in my car. I knew if I wasn’t ready, most others probably weren’t either. That was my wake-up call. Time to act.

Survival in the Hood exists to share this mindset and help others take control before the worst happens  because waiting until it does is too late.

Our Roots & What

We Stand For

Community has always been at the heart of who I am. After graduating high school in 1977, I returned that summer to coach shot putters on the track team. From there, I coached high school and college football, served as Compton Little League President during the 1990s, and coached baseball for over 30 years. I also spent three decades building a telecommunications career right here in the city of Compton.

That commitment to community is what led me here. Coaching, mentoring, and leading have always been in my blood — and Survival in the Hood is a natural extension of that. It’s how I continue to give back, teach, and prepare others for whatever lies ahead.

The values I hold close are simple but powerful: care for your fellow man and lead a life of service. The world is our "Hood" — and we must be ready to survive in it.
